Red Fox (Vulpes vulpes)

Order: Carnivora | Family: Canidae

Biology: Foxes live either solitarily or in family groups. They dig dens with at least two exits, which may be used for several years. Mating occurs from late January through the first ten days of February. Females breed once a year, typically giving birth to 6–8 kits. They reach sexual maturity at 10 months.

Habitat: Forest, steppe, and meadow ecosystems, as well as rocky areas and agricultural lands.

Ecological Role: They are omnivores that feed primarily on rodents, which make up about 70% of their diet; however, they also consume birds, hares, and occasionally fish, reptiles, insects, and plants. Their average lifespan in the wild is 5–6 years.

Conservation Status: In the IUCN Red List – LC.
